For players
Most academies pick next year’s players in October and November
By Gustav, founder of Breakout · 6 min read
Ahead of the 2027 season, most Swedish academies select new players between September and December, and weeks 43 and 44 – around the autumn half-term – are the most common trial weeks. The way in differs: some clubs run open trials with a sign-up form, others only take expressions of interest, and some recruit purely by scouting. This is what more than 20 clubs say themselves, checked on 16 October 2026.
Clubs have three different ways in
An open trial means you sign up through a form and are called to one or two sessions, where the first can be a cut. An expression of interest means you send in your details and the club chooses whom to invite – several clubs state outright that applying is not an invitation. Scouting means there is nothing to apply for: the club sees you in a match and contacts your club.
What the rules say about trials, when a club may contact you and why you talk to your own club first is covered in our guide to trials. This guide is only about dates and ways in. The list was checked on 16 October 2026 against the clubs’ own pages. Dates move, so always check the club’s page before you sign up.
In Stockholm and Uppsala several autumn windows have already closed
- AIK runs an open try-out with a form, but only for players from other clubs. In 2026 it was held on 4 October for boys born 2014–2017 and 11 October for girls born 2015–2017. Registration for 2026 closed on 27 September.
- Hammarby holds open trial sessions for boys a few times a season, with sign-up via a form. One or two of hundreds of applicants go through, and you hear within seven days if you do. Girls born 2016–2019 can sign up for free open training sessions ahead of 2027; older girls email the club’s recruitment manager.
- Brommapojkarna has a trial application for boys, with no published dates, and sign-up forms for open training sessions for girls born 2013–2019.
- IK Sirius took expressions of interest for Academy 2027 from boys born 2013–2014 until early August, with replies by week 43. A girls’ academy with F13, F15 and F17 starts in 2027; its trials had not been published at the time of writing.
- Djurgården: only a general expression-of-interest form, no published route into the academy.
In Gothenburg and Halland the way in usually goes through your own club
The Gothenburg FA’s transfer policy describes the order the clubs here follow: you or your guardian talk to your club, the new club contacts your club’s transfer officer, and only then do you trial.
- IFK Göteborg’s girls’ academy takes applications through a form and then calls players to trials. In 2025 the trials ran from 15 November to 12 December for girls born 2008–2010; the 2026 dates had not been published at the time of writing. For ages 11 to 13 there is a free open extra training session (born 2013–2015), from which the club may invite players to trial. From 15, it is by invitation only.
- BK Häcken scouts for its academy track for ages 13 to 19 and takes no applications for it. For ages 10 to 12 and the youth track, the way in is through your current club.
- GAIS has interest forms for boys P15 to U19 and invites P12 to P14 players in weeks 4–8, 32–34 and 45–48. The club does not recruit players under 15 on its own initiative and wants you to go through your club’s transfer officer. Girls born 2010–2012 had an open trial on 16 November 2025; the 2026 dates have not been published.
- Utsiktens BK has an interest form for Academy 2027 (boys born 2008–2015 and F19), no open sessions and a trial period from 15 November to 15 December.
- IF Elfsborg is taking no new players aged 8 to 14 through open applications ahead of 2027, and expressions of interest are closed. Nothing changes for the girls’ side, but no selection dates are published.
- Halmstads BK takes expressions of interest via a form for players born 2014–2021 ahead of 2027. The club’s pages give different closing dates, 15 November and 1 December – aim for the earlier one. If you have not heard anything by 1 December (the news item says 15 December), there is no offer. Players born 2012–2013 register interest by email, and the club invites some of them on a rolling basis from October to December.
- Falkenbergs FF invites boys born 2012 to two of four sessions on 19–22 October ahead of P15 2027. Registration for 2026 closed on 14 October.
In Skåne and Småland several sign-ups are still open
- Malmö FF holds an open trial for girls born 2014–2018 on Saturday 14 November 2026. Sign up by 30 October and answer the call-up by 9 November. Those selected start in week 48 or 49, and the club gives no individual feedback. Older girls register interest through the same form. For boys there is only a trial sign-up form, with no process described.
- Helsingborgs IF holds open selection trials twice a year, in weeks 25 and 44, from the year you turn 10. In autumn 2026 they are for P13 (mainly born 2014) and F15 (mainly born 2012) in week 44. A trial is 2–4 sessions. For older academy teams the way in is scouting and invitation.
- Kalmar FF holds an open trial for boys and girls born 2014 ahead of its 2027 academy teams: boys on 19 and 20 October, girls on 21 and 22 October. The first session is a cut, and only a few per age group get an offer. The club’s news item from 14 October gives Saturday 17 October as the last day to sign up; the sign-up page gives 15 October.
- IFK Värnamo runs open trials for boys and girls born 2012–2014 ahead of 2027 in weeks 45–46, with sign-up via a form.
- Kristianstads DFF trials girls born 2009–2012 for F17 and F19 in week 43 of 2026. You sign up by emailing the club.
- Östers IF has interest forms for its boys’ academy teams, but they are labelled for 2025 and 2026 and nothing has been published for 2027. FC Rosengård and Vittsjö GIK: no route into the academy published.
In the rest of the country the autumn half-term is trial week
- Örebro SK has no open sessions in its academy. Boys born 2013 and 2012 register interest by email, and those invited trial on 28 and 29 October respectively, during the half-term break.
- IF Karlstad Fotboll holds an open trial on 2–3 November 2026 for players born 2012. Both days are required: tests on the first, match play on the second. Tell your club before you sign up.
- Linköping FC wants you to tell your club and then email the academy’s contact person with your birth year, position, club and level. Sign-up for the open sessions is closed.
- IFK Norrköping: applications from boys born 2014 to next year’s P13 closed on 25 September.
- Degerfors IF held an open trial day for boys born 2012 on 17 August, is inviting more players during the autumn and gives decisions in mid-December. The interest form is still open.
- IK Brage takes applications via a form ahead of 2027 – boys aged 13 to 19 and girls born 2010–2012 – with trials from late autumn. An application is not an invitation.
- Östersunds FK takes expressions of interest from boys born 2012 for P15 2027. In the last round, trials started in week 44. For girls there is a training group for players born 2012–2015.
- GIF Sundsvall scouts actively from the year you turn 13. If you get in touch yourself, the club contacts your club before you can be invited to a trial.
- Piteå IF: no route into the academy published.
Plan your autumn before the forms close
This is our advice, based on the clubs’ own pages. Pick two or three clubs and write down the closing date for each – several windows closed back in September. Tell your coach before you sign up; Karlstad, Malmö FF and Falkenberg ask you to, and in Gothenburg it does not work otherwise. Expect few places: Hammarby takes one or two of hundreds, Kalmar a few per age group, and Hammarby and Malmö FF give no feedback.
At clubs that only scout, the matches you already play are the trial. In Breakout you gather your position, club and clips in one profile, and a scout can only send a contact request that you answer yes or no to yourself.
The list was last checked on 16 October 2026. Clubs change dates and forms every autumn, so the club’s own page takes precedence over this one.
Common follow-up questions
- When are the academy trials ahead of 2027?
- Most fall between October and December 2026. Weeks 43 and 44 are the most common – Kalmar FF, Falkenberg, Helsingborg and Örebro hold trials then – and Malmö FF’s open trial for girls is on 14 November. Several sign-ups closed back in September and October, including AIK’s, IFK Norrköping’s and Falkenberg’s.
- Can I apply to an academy myself?
- Often, but not everywhere. Helsingborg, Kalmar FF and Malmö FF (girls) have open forms, and AIK had one until 27 September. BK Häcken only takes players through scouting or through your current club, and GAIS does not recruit players under 15 on its own initiative. Several clubs want you to have told your own club before you sign up.
- Does an academy trial cost anything?
- Most clubs state no price for the trial itself, and Hammarby’s open sessions for girls are explicitly free. What costs money is the academy afterwards: in 2027 IFK Norrköping charges 6,000 kronor a year for P13 to P15 and F15 and 9,000 kronor for the older teams.
